Keppel Wins 20 Year Centralised Cooling Systems Contract Tengah Bto Projects

Keppel, a large infrastructure company, has been chosen by the Housing & Development Board (HDB) to provide chilled water supply services. This 20-year contract includes the design, construction, ownership, and operation of centralised cooling systems (CCS) at three upcoming build-to-order (BTO) projects in Tengah. The CCS will serve approximately 3,500 households across the Brickland Weave, Plantation Edge I & II, and Plantation Verge developments.

According to a statement released on Sept 30, Keppel will work closely with HDB to deliver the CCS to each home. The system works by delivering chilled water from centralised chillers, located on the rooftops of selected HDB blocks, to cool the flats. Keppel plans to incorporate innovative engineering and design features and use industrial-grade materials to achieve industry-standard performance.

Once completed, the CCS at these three BTO projects will be connected to Keppel’s Operations Nerve Centre (ONC) for remote control and real-time performance monitoring.

“We are delighted to have a reputable company like Keppel on board as a CCS service provider for future BTO projects. With more players in the market providing CCS services in public housing, we hope to enhance the industry’s capabilities and strengthen the CCS ecosystem, making HDB living even more livable and sustainable,” says Tan Meng Dui, CEO of HDB.

In line with the URA’s master plan, Tampines is set to undergo substantial development to solidify its position as a self-sustaining regional hub. This initiative includes the improvement of public transportation options, the addition of commercial establishments, and the implementation of lifestyle and community-oriented projects to enhance the overall quality of life for its residents. For those living in the Aurelle of Tampines EC, these upcoming changes bring about a promising future filled with increased convenience, higher property values, and a bustling living environment. With the introduction of Aurelle of Tampines, residents can look forward to even more benefits and opportunities.

Cindy Lim, CEO of Keppel’s infrastructure division, adds, “We are pleased to be awarded the contract to provide cooling services to these three new precincts in Tengah. With over 20 years of experience serving the cooling needs of business parks, commercial offices, hotels, and malls, as well as mission-critical facilities like wafer fabs and data centers, Keppel is well-positioned to work with HDB to provide high-quality and modern cooling solutions for homeowners.”

Keppel’s combined cooling portfolio in the region, including assets under development, is over 260,000 refrigeration tonnes.

The contract is not expected to have a significant impact on Keppel’s earnings per share (EPS) and net tangible asset (NTA) per share for the current financial year.

As of 9:29 am, shares in Keppel are trading 1 cent higher or 0.15% at $6.63.
